CHECK OR BET is out of the 2005 Broodmare of the Year and AQHA Dam of Distinction, RUNAWAY WAVE, and is a half-brother to millionaire World Champion WAVE CARVER si-104, millionaire Multiple Champion OCEAN RUNAWAY si-105, and Grade 1 Stakes Winner TRISK si-102. As a two-year-old, CHECK OR BET easily broke his maiden on his first out and was headed towards the Ed Burke Million Futurity. An unfortunate racing incident during the trials for the futurity left CHECK OR BET with a slab fracture to his right knee. After surgery (with a 50% chance of racing) and almost one year of rehabilitation, he ran 4th in an allowance race and earned an 85 speed index. He came back slightly sore in that knee, and we felt that it was prudent to quit. CHECK OR BET has a unique pedigree that combines Thoroughbred speed from Storm Cat and In The Curl (Lucas Racing's foundation mare) with two of the best sources of Beduino, in Fishers Favorite and Runaway Winner.
